About

Five minutes with Joanne Cocker…

Hi Jo, thanks for inviting us to your studio! How did you get to this point?

I have been working as a designer for over 20 years. Having designed for many other amazing brands and learning an awful lot along the way, in 2013 I took the plunge and launched my own brand - JOJO COCO Design. Although it has been a lot of hard work it has enabled me to finally express myself through my work, and I am very much looking forward to what the future might bring.

What have been some of your proudest JOJO COCO moments?

I’m really proud of everything I have achieved, but collaborating with Dashwood Studio, The Window Film Company and Kahu Baby have been real highlights. Also, it’s been amazing to see my designs on sale in John Lewis - an absolute dream for many designers!

What inspires you?

I’m lucky to be surrounded by the British countryside, and I incorporate a lot of natural elements into my work. I always say you can never have too many birds, leaves and trees! Whilst my freelance work is predominantly used on designs for nursery and kids product, I really like to play with pops of colour combined with muted tones to create designs that would appeal to more sophisticated living spaces.

I am really inspired and driven by the thought of people bringing my designs into their homes and making them a well-loved part of their habitat. I feel so lucky to have my work appreciated in this way - it’s crazy to think that people all over the UK who I’ve never met have my designs in their house!

When you’re not busy in the studio, how do you spend your weekends?

A walk in the great outdoors with my family, followed by a big Sunday roast and maybe a cheeky drink or two. I also love to be silly with my daughter, spend time by the sea and I regularly do Pilates.

Tell us three of your favourite things…

  1. Paper Mate Flair pens - my drawing go-to

  2. Mustard - the colour not the food!

  3. Sunshine

Tell us something people might not know about you…

I’m a bit of a hoarder - I buy greetings cards I like then I can’t part with them….whoops!

What’s next for you?

Following a recent series of successful partnerships, I am looking to extend my license portfolio and collaborate with brands that share my passion for quality and detail. My licensed ranges have proven incredibly popular with consumers and have provided brands with new sales opportunities in new channels. I can’t wait to work with some more creative, exciting brands to create pieces that their customers will love!
